Job Summary

The Compensation and Compliance Specialist plays a crucial role in processing the company's payroll, year-end processes, and managing government reporting and remittances. This position is integral to data and records integrity, engaging directly with auditors, implementing the records management program, and tracking metrics assessing payroll accuracy.

Responsibilities
  1. Process and deliver regular payroll for all employees biweekly, ensuring compliance with legislative and regulatory requirements.
  2. Confirm accurate employee data updates according to supportive documentation.
  3. Validate balancing of all payroll files prior to approval for transmission to the bank.
  4. Administer remittances to government institutions.
  5. Develop and maintain processes to monitor tax compliance issues and concerns for employees.
  6. Support HR Generalists with payroll-related questions and investigate discrepancies.
  7. Plan and lead the year-end process, collaborating with HR Manager, Director, HR, HRIS Advisor, and finance.
  8. Generate and deliver statutory government filings accurately within regulated timelines.
  9. Respond to auditor and finance inquiries demonstrating payroll process accuracy.
  10. Maintain payroll process documentation, updating it when processes are amended or updated.
  11. Ensure payroll system integrity through quality improvement, auditing, testing, and education for end-users.
  12. Reconcile payroll expenses and provide payroll-related financial information to the finance department.
  13. Validate benefit provider invoices and submit for approval and payment.
  14. Support completion of union dues reporting and partner with finance for invoicing.
  15. Partner with TSSA's records lead to archive records and implement disposal and destruction rules.
Requirements
  • A minimum of 3-4 years' experience delivering payroll is required.
  • A university degree in accounting, finance, business, or human resources is required.
  • The Payroll Compliance Professional (PCP) designation is mandatory.
  • Experience working with UKG software is preferred.
  • Delivering payroll in a self-management environment is an asset.
  • Proficiency in payroll software and advanced Excel is essential.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of related provisions of the Income Tax Act, Ontario Employment Standards Act, pension regulations, and WSIB reporting is required.
  • Engages in personal continuous improvement, remaining well-versed in changes to the payroll system and government rules.
  • Excellent attention to detail with a proven ability to work at a high standard of accuracy.
  • Ability to work in a deadline-driven environment, handling time-sensitive inquiries with accuracy and speed.
  • Strong time management, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
  • Strong numeracy and mathematical skills.
  • Data mindset and good understanding of data architecture.
  • Maintains confidentiality in all communications and file management.
