Job Summary:

The Grounds Maintenance Laborer is responsible for performing a variety of tasks to complete grounds maintenance service contracts. This role requires operating various tools and equipment to carry out specified job tasks.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Aid in the loading and unloading of trucks and trailers.
  • Perform lawn care duties, including cutting grass, trimming edges, cleaning up refuse, blowing trimmings, fertilizing, and watering turf areas.
  • Move and install soil, mulch, and plant material to assist with the construction of landscape gardens and related areas.
  • Control insects and weeds by spraying and dusting areas.
  • Operate power equipment, including lawn tractors, mowers, trimmers, blowers, hedge trimmers, pruning saws, sod cutters, chain saws, and snow blowers.
  • Conduct daily inspections and maintenance on vehicles, tools, and equipment.
  • Assist the foreperson in other work-related duties, including construction projects, shop and yard maintenance, vehicle and equipment maintenance.
  • Wear personal protective equipment at all times.
  • Comply with company policies and local health and safety laws and regulations.
  • Communicate with customers in a polite and courteous manner.

Requirements:

  • Minimum one year experience in the landscape or construction industry.
  • Ability to operate required equipment and tools safely and responsibly.
  • Effective communication skills, including verbal instructions, reading labels and signs, completing simple reports, and reporting progress to the foreperson.
  • Time management skills.
  • Knowledge of materials, methods, tools, and equipment required to complete landscape and construction practices.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Ability to walk, stand, and crouch for long periods and perform strenuous physical tasks.
  • Preference given to candidates with a valid driver's license and safe driving record.

Work Conditions:

  • Ability to work with hand tools, power tools, small engine equipment, and materials.
  • Ability to lift a minimum of 50 pounds repeatedly throughout a work shift.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment.
  • Requires good manual dexterity and excellent stamina.
  • Work near heavy equipment and vehicles regularly.
  • Work outdoors in various conditions, including heat, humidity, rain, dust, noise, and cold.
  • Flexible working hours, including occasional weekend work.
