As Senior Director of Communications at UJA Federation of Greater Toronto, you will play a pivotal role in developing a comprehensive communications strategy that unites and strengthens the community's voice.

Your responsibilities will encompass issues management and crisis communications, stewardship reporting, impactful content creation, speech writing, and marketing communications for both digital and direct mail campaigns focused on fundraising and program recruitment.

You will work collaboratively with colleagues across all teams within the Integrated Development Department, reporting directly to the Vice President of Marketing and Communications.

This opportunity allows you to lead impactful communications efforts during a critical time for the community.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop and execute a comprehensive communications strategy aligning with organizational goals and brand messaging.
  • Oversee a diverse team of writers, fostering a collaborative and creative environment while ensuring each member effectively contributes their expertise.
  • Maintain the organization's overall 'voice', ensuring all communications reflect values, mission, and brand identity.
  • Collaborate with teams to ensure consistency and alignment in all communications, reinforcing a unified brand message.
  • Lead a proactive media strategy, building relationships with media outlets and representing the organization in public discourse.
  • Utilize data analytics to assess communication effectiveness, tailoring strategies for clear, engaging, and easily understood messaging.
  • Craft and articulate the overarching story, highlighting initiatives and impact in the community.
  • Develop high-quality content for the fundraising team and donors, effectively communicating impact and importance of ongoing support.
  • Implement crisis communication plans, ensuring timely and effective responses while protecting the organization's reputation.

Desired Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Communications, Marketing, Public Relations, or a related field; a Master's degree is advantageous.
  • Minimum 10+ years of progressive experience in communications, with a strong background in fundraising communications, media relations, and issues management, preferably in a nonprofit or community-focused organization.
  • Proven ability to lead and manage a diverse team of writers and communications professionals, fostering innovation and collaboration.
  • Demonstrated experience in developing comprehensive communications strategies that align with organizational goals and brand messaging.
  • Exceptional writing, editing, and verbal communication skills, articulating complex ideas clearly and persuasively to various audiences.
  • Strong background in media strategy and relations, with the ability to build and maintain relationships with journalists and media outlets.
  • Proficient in using analytics and data to assess communication effectiveness and inform strategic decisions.
  • Experience in crafting compelling narratives that resonate with diverse stakeholders, enhancing engagement and support for the organization.
  • Knowledge of crisis communication principles and experience in managing communications during sensitive situations.
  • A strong commitment to the mission and values of the organization and community, with an understanding of challenges and opportunities facing the community today.
  • Exceptional project management skills, handling multiple priorities and deadlines in a fast-paced environment.

The estimated salary for this position is approximately $120,000 - $150,000 per year, commensurate with experience and qualifications.
