Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Transit Department Supervisor to join our team at Conservation Halton. As a key member of our operations team, you will be responsible for overseeing the safe and efficient transportation of passengers, as well as providing leadership and supervision to seasonal staff.

Key Responsibilities
  • Oversee the operation of transit tractors and shuttle trailers to ensure safe transportation of passengers
  • Recruit, onboard, and train seasonal transit staff
  • Provide day-to-day leadership and supervision of seasonal staff, including developing break schedules and covering breaks as needed
  • Ensure safe operation of small/heavy equipment and trailers, including completion of safety checks and reporting any equipment defects
  • Direct and control both automotive and pedestrian traffic to ensure safe and efficient traffic flow
  • Assist with general maintenance, snow removal, and cleanup duties, as well as set-up, takedown, and operations for special events and functions
  • Collect and transport garbage and recyclable material in parking lots for disposal/processing
  • Move supplies, picnic tables, and equipment as required
  • Support with processing deliveries, including unloading supplies
  • Respond to guest inquiries and assist with questions or concerns as needed
Requirements
  • Ability to operate small/heavy equipment is required
  • Previous experience operating a truck with trailer hooked up is an asset, however training will be provided
  • Strong communication skills, ability to provide direction to staff and to direct both vehicle and pedestrian traffic
  • Customer service mindset with strong problem-solving skills, ability to make decisions and action accordingly
  • Ability to work in and adapt to the daily challenges associated with a fast-paced environment
  • Ability to handle difficult situations while remaining calm under pressure
  • Previous experience in parking lot operations is an asset
  • Working knowledge of ski resort operations is an asset
  • 1-2 years supervisory experience is an asset
  • Demonstrated ability to work in a team environment, providing support to other Conservation Halton departments as required
  • Ability to work outdoors in a variety of outdoor conditions
  • Able to lift up to 40 pounds, stand, and walk for long periods of time
  • A valid Ontario Driver's Licence, minimum Class 'G', with a satisfactory Driver's Abstract is required
  • Successful candidates must provide own CSA-approved safety footwear prior to first day of employment
