Black & McDonald is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Operations Manager to join our team. As a key member of our operations team, you will be responsible for ensuring the smooth delivery of our services and driving business growth.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop and implement processes and procedures to ensure consistency and continuity of services.
- Lead by example and demonstrate a strong commitment to Health, Safety, and Environment (HSE) best practices.
- Leverage Black & McDonald's service offerings and resources to drive business growth and improve customer satisfaction.
- Establish a governance model that provides customers with direct access to senior management.
- Act as the Owner's Representative for assigned projects and tasks.
- Provide clear, comprehensive, and timely reporting to stakeholders.
- Address and resolve contractual and performance issues with transparency and integrity.
- Provide technical and operational guidance and support to Facilities Managers and Project Managers.
- Monitor quality assurance throughout the portfolio to ensure customer satisfaction.
- Lead and attend meetings to provide regular reporting and recommendations.
- Champion the adoption and leveraging of emerging technologies to drive business outcomes.
- Ensure accountability and a culture of continuous improvement.
- Execute tasks and lead staff in accordance with Corporate Policy.
- Build and maintain strong customer and vendor relationships.
- Prepare contracts and negotiate revisions with suppliers and subcontractors.
- Develop and implement quality control programs.
- Represent Black & McDonald on business services and union matters.
- Prepare progress reports and issue progress schedules to clients.
- Hire and supervise subcontractors and subordinate staff.
- Participate in customer designates during regular meetings.
- Provide assistance for internal or client-based audits or inspections.
- Ensure compliance with environmental, health, and safety, security, and quality assurance programs.
- Provide technical guidance and oversight to direct reports.
- Provide assistance with emerging critical responses.
- Perform site inspections to ensure safe and best work practices.
- Ensure staff compliance with training requirements and procedural guidelines.
- Provide SMART benchmarks for staff KPIs and provide feedback.
Competency Requirements
- Familiarity with specific software packages and management tools.
- Advanced analytical and time management skills.
- Understanding of Facility Management processes and standards.

- Outstanding knowledge of building products, construction details, and relevant rules, regulations, and quality standards.

Education Requirements
- A university degree in civil engineering, a CET, college diploma in construction technology, or related education is considered an asset.
- A trade license may be an asset.
- Experience in the Facility Management industry may substitute for post-secondary education requirements.
Work Experience Requirements
- Minimum 3-5 years of Facilities Management and/or operations management experience in the Industrial, Commercial, and Institutional sectors.
Skills, Abilities, and Other Requirements
- Able to travel within the Greater Toronto Area (GTA).
- Security clearance requirements: must be able to get reliability or secret clearance.
