Electrical Distribution Technician Job Description

The Royal Canadian Air Force is seeking skilled Electrical Distribution Technicians to join our team. As an Electrical Distribution Technician, you will be responsible for installing, repairing, and maintaining high and low voltage electrical distribution systems, as well as portable and fixed airfield lighting systems, fire alarm and security systems.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Install, repair, and maintain electrical distribution systems, including high and low voltage systems, airfield lighting systems, and fire alarm and security systems.
  • Produce electrical designs and specifications, and drawings as required.
  • Conduct reconnaissance and assist other Construction Engineering tradespersons as needed.
Requirements:
  • Be a Canadian citizen or permanent resident living in Canada.
  • Be at least 18 years old (17 years old with parental consent), except for certain programs.
  • Have completed at least Grade 10 or Secondary 4 in Quebec (or equivalent secondary school education).
Work Environment:

Electrical Distribution Technicians often work in varying environmental conditions and must maintain their skills while employed at home units or on humanitarian and United Nations operational assignments.

Training and Development:

Electrical Distribution Technicians attend a seven-day course to train to climb hydro poles up to 30 metres in height and towers taller than 30 metres. Continued training depends upon successful completion of this course.

Electrical Distribution Technicians then attend the School of Military Engineering in Gagetown, New Brunswick, for approximately 19 weeks of training, which includes environmental skills, tool and equipment training, and electrical systems training.

Specialty Training:

Electrical Distribution Technicians may be offered the opportunity to develop specialized skills through formal courses and on-the-job training.

Required Education:

The minimum required education to apply for this occupation is the completion of the provincial requirements for Grade 10 or Secondary 4 in Quebec (or equivalent secondary school education).

Foreign education may be accepted.
