About the Role:
Valard Group of Companies, a leading utility contractor and part of the Quanta Group, is seeking an experienced Labor Relations Coordinator to join its team. This fixed-term position, from January 2025 to July 2027, offers a competitive salary of approximately $65,000 per annum.

Job Description:
The Labor Relations Coordinator will play a crucial role in recruiting skilled field workers and maintaining effective labor relations within a dynamic, unionized environment. Key responsibilities include:

• Sourcing and recruiting skilled trade professionals, including heavy-duty mechanics, equipment operators, and laborers
• Supporting collective agreement administration, grievance handling, and employee relations
• Partnering with hiring managers to understand staffing needs and implementing proactive recruitment processes
• Representing the company at career fairs, community events, and networking functions to build brand awareness and attract candidates
• Conducting candidate screening and communicating position offers to successful applicants
• Administering onboarding processes for new hires, including site-specific orientations, union paperwork, and collecting required certifications

Labor Relations:
The ideal candidate will assist with the administration and interpretation of collective agreements, ensuring compliance. Responsibilities include:

• Documenting issues and gathering documentation related to grievances
• Participating in labor-management meetings
• Serving as the first point of contact for union representatives and employees regarding labor-related matters

Employee Relations & HR Support:
The Labor Relations Coordinator will address employee inquiries regarding benefits, payroll, and company policies. Additional responsibilities include:

• Supporting performance management processes, including tracking performance reviews and disciplinary actions
• Assisting in communicating HR policies aligned with labor agreements and regulatory requirements
• Promoting positive employee engagement by participating in events and initiatives
• Investigating employee complaints by gathering information, documenting findings, and supporting fair and transparent resolution processes

Compliance & Reporting:
The incumbent will ensure compliance with employment laws, collective agreements, and company policies. Key responsibilities include:

• Maintaining accurate employee records, certifications, and compliance documentation in HR systems

Requirements:
To be successful in this role, you will require:

• 2-5 years of experience in HR, recruitment, or labor relations, preferably in a unionized environment
• Primarily camp-based with occasional travel to other project sites and job fairs
• Availability outside of regular working hours may be required to meet project needs
• Experience recruiting in the construction, utility, or heavy industry sectors
• Familiarity with employment laws and safety standards applicable to field operations
• Knowledge of full-cycle recruitment processes, especially for trades and field positions
• Experience with collective agreements
• Exceptional interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to work collaboratively with multiple stakeholders
• Proficiency in HRIS systems, applicant tracking systems (ATS), and Microsoft Office
• Valid driver's license required
