Transportation Planning and Design Engineer

We are seeking an experienced Transportation Planning and Design Engineer to join our team. As a key member of our Transportation Planning group, you will be responsible for providing technical expertise and support to clients on a wide range of transportation engineering and planning projects.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Manage and lead projects, providing technical analysis, client liaison, project management, and proposal preparation for public and private sector clients.
  • Prepare and contribute to transportation studies, including multi-modal studies, transportation master plans, environmental assessments, traffic impact studies, and parking studies.
  • Support business development efforts by identifying, capturing, and qualifying opportunities.
  • Establish and maintain good working relationships and communication with clients.
  • Assist with proposal and report preparation related to transportation planning, traffic engineering, and environmental assessments.
  • Coordinate and contribute to public and agency consultation activities, including public open houses and information centres.
  • Familiarity with software packages, including Synchro SimTraffic, Arcady, VISSIM, EMME, and MS Office, for analysis, evaluation, and report preparation.
  • Design and manage field work, including site investigations, traffic data collection, and existing transportation conditions.
  • Contribute to work analysis and design, including pavement markings, signage, traffic management, and detour plans, utilizing appropriate standards and analysis tools.
  • Undertake business travel upon request.
  • Assist and mentor technical staff with additional duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

  • A degree in Civil Engineering, with a focus on transportation engineering.
  • Qualified to practice in Ontario as a Professional Engineer, or eligible to be qualified within six months.
  • 15+ years of professional experience, preferably in the consulting industry.
  • Experience in a range of transportation planning and preliminary design studies of multi-modal transportation infrastructure.
  • Knowledge and application of principles of geometric design and traffic engineering.
  • Understanding of traffic demand forecasting and impact analysis techniques.
  • Knowledge of Municipal Class EA process.
