Commodity Acquisition Specialist

Job Description
The Commodity Acquisition Specialist will be responsible for developing and implementing a comprehensive sourcing strategy across various component categories, including mechanical components, electrical components, wire harnesses, machined parts, valves, motors, metal, and plastics. This role requires a strong understanding of key business areas affecting the supply chain, knowledge of commodity markets and manufacturing processes, and the ability to analyze data to inform purchasing decisions.
Key Responsibilities:
- Establish and maintain effective supplier partnerships to drive quality, delivery, lead time, and cost performance goals.
- Conduct global sourcing projects related to assigned product portfolios, evaluating new suppliers and analyzing quotations to ensure quality, quantity, delivery terms, and cost are acceptable.
- Negotiate contracts with domestic and international suppliers.
- Develop and implement sourcing strategies for both domestic and international sources, ensuring timely and effective planning, development, and execution to meet project timelines and cost-saving goals.
- Identify and research new materials and processes to drive cost-down efforts, recognizing opportunities to improve the company's competitive position through market analysis and competitor evaluation.
- Maintain accurate product information, purchasing, pricing, and cost data in SAP, conducting ABC analysis to optimize inventory management.
- Work with cross-functional teams to ensure selected vendors meet quality and delivery requirements.
- Respond effectively to complex material purchasing issues and demonstrate high-level assurance in decision-making.
Requirements:
- Bachelor's degree in a technical or business discipline, combined with at least 5 years of purchasing experience in a fast-paced manufacturing environment, preferably with international sourcing expertise.
- Fluent English language skills (reading, writing, spoken), with basic French language knowledge an asset.
- Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written and oral form, dealing with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.
- Proficient user of MS Office tools, with experience using MRP systems like SAP an asset.
- Familiarity with JIT systems, Kanban, and LEAN principles, as well as proven experience in major contract negotiation and administration.
