About the Alberta Family Wellness Initiative
The Palix Foundation, in collaboration with the Government of Alberta and Alberta Health Services, established the Alberta Family Wellness Initiative (AFWI) in 2007. This pioneering endeavor aims to bridge the gap between neuroscience and its application in mental health, addiction, and disease prevention.
Our strategic partnership includes renowned institutions such as the Center of the Developing Child at Harvard University and the University of Oxford, fostering a collaborative environment that drives impactful change.
We are seeking an accomplished Scientific Director to spearhead our initiatives, ensuring alignment with our mission and goals. The ideal candidate will possess expertise in developmental or behavioral neuroscience, public health, or related fields, with a passion for knowledge dissemination and practical applications.
Job Description
- Lead the scientific direction of AFWI, ensuring adherence to our mission and objectives.
- Provide counsel to the Patron and President on scientific and research matters.
- Foster strategic partnerships with academic institutions, government agencies, and community organizations to enhance capabilities and share knowledge.
- Oversee project design, execution, and evaluation, ensuring compliance with ethical standards and scientific rigor when applicable.
- Cultivate effective communication with diverse audiences, including policymakers, practitioners, and the general public, through publications, presentations, and community engagement initiatives.
- Collaborate with the leadership team to develop strategic initiatives promoting the use of research and evaluation in policy and practice.
- Mentor and supervise staff, fostering a collaborative work environment.
Requirements
- Ph.D. in neuroscience, psychology, public health, or a related field.
- Research experience.
- Demonstrated knowledge and understanding of neurosciences, research methodologies, and science implementation.
- Strong leadership abilities and experience managing a team.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to engage diverse stakeholders.
Compensation and Benefits
We offer a competitive compensation package, including a salary range of $120,000 - $180,000 per annum, commensurate with experience. In addition, we provide opportunities for professional growth and development within a dynamic and supportive work environment.
