We are seeking an experienced AWS Cloud Architect to join our team. This is an exciting opportunity to work in a fast-paced team environment, using emerging technologies. The ideal candidate is eager to learn about the latest technical solutions and systems, and has the flexibility and broad skill set to carry out a range of responsibilities, from improving existing environments to planning and building new ones in coordination with clients or other members of the organization.

Candidates must be based in BC - Hybrid role - Victoria / Vancouver

Salary: $100,000 - $150,000 annually

Responsibilities:

  • Design and implement scalable, secure, and highly available data lakes in complex environments
  • Design solutions for high availability and fault tolerance using AWS services
  • Create blueprints for cloud infrastructures on AWS (network, server, storage, security)
  • Design and implement disaster recovery (DR) and high availability (HA) strategies on AWS
  • Participate in design and automation of cloud solutions
  • Devise enterprise strategies around containerization, serverless, and API management
  • Define and document cloud solution architecture(s) including technical designs and diagrams
  • Perform hands-on build and deploy production systems in AWS
  • Automate cloud deployments and infrastructure management using AWS CloudFormation, Terraform, or similar tools
  • Utilize AWS security tools (e.g., IAM, Security Groups, VPCs) to design secure infrastructure for solutions
  • Design enterprise cloud technical strategy
  • Understand and champion cloud lifecycle management
  • Encourage and participate in team learning and development efforts
  • Architect and develop working demonstrations and proofs of concepts in AWS
  • Acting as the primary technical contact on cloud-related engagements
  • Define different types of architectures using AWS services along with cloud-native architectures, including serverless and microservices design patterns
  • Create architectural documentation and diagrams for AWS applications and infrastructure
  • Work closely with clients and stakeholders to understand their requirements and translate them into effective solutions on AWS
  • Provide expert advice and guidance on AWS best practices and emerging technologies
  • Mentor junior team members and contribute to the development of internal best practices and tools
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams (e.g., development, operations, security, and client teams)
  • Run technical sessions and workshops and guide clients on architectural and strategic IT decisions

Required Skills and Experience:

  • Bachelor's degree in computer science, information systems, or a related field
  • AWS Associate/Professional certification is highly desirable
  • A minimum of 10 years of IT experience with at least 4+ years of experience developing in AWS
  • Hands-on experience in AWS provisioning
  • Proficient in designing, deploying, and managing applications on AWS with a deep understanding of AWS core services, such as EC2, S3, RDS, VPC, Route 53, Lambda, and CloudFormation
  • Skilled in scripting and automation tools (e.g., Python, Bash) and infrastructure as code (IaC) using AWS CloudFormation or Terraform
  • Familiarity with continuous integration and continuous deployment (CI/CD) pipelines and tools (e.g., Jenkins, GitLab CI, AWS CodePipeline)
  • Solid understanding of cloud networking architectures and experience with AWS network services (e.g., VPC, Direct Connect, Route 53, ELB)
  • Experience in implementing and managing security and compliance policies in an AWS environment
  • Ability to analyze and optimize infrastructure costs and performance in AWS
  • Experience with monitoring and logging tools in AWS (e.g., CloudWatch, CloudTrail, AWS Config)
  • Strong knowledge of cloud security best practices and AWS security services (e.g., IAM, KMS, Security Groups)
  • Deep understanding of cloud component architecture patterns: Microservices, Containers, IaaS, Storage, Security
  • Experience with automation development on AWS. Needs to be proficient in one or more automation languages (e.g., Ansible, Cloud Formations, Chef, Terraform)
  • Experience in designing multi-tier application architectures or microservices on AWS
  • Experience building and supporting cloud data lakes
  • Experience with Jenkins or Maven, Git/version control, and/or NoSQL databases
  • Experience with event-driven architectures and RESTful API design
  • Experience with Disaster Recovery Plans in cloud environments
  • Strong understanding of Cloud-based application deployment architectures
  • Familiar with data structures, schemas, and infrastructure
  • Excellent leadership, peer management, and communication skills
