Job Title: Custodian/Cleaner

Job Summary:

We are seeking a reliable and detail-oriented Custodian/Cleaner to join our team at Neeginan Centre Inc. As a key member of our facilities maintenance team, you will be responsible for ensuring the cleanliness and maintenance of our properties.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Perform cleaning, janitorial services, and basic maintenance tasks in a safe and efficient manner.
  • Ensure established cleaning schedules are followed according to cleaning standards.
  • Perform sweeping, mopping, dusting, washing, vacuuming, and other cleaning tasks in office spaces, washrooms, and public areas.
  • Empty trash receptacles and garbage containers.
  • Replenish supplies in janitor rooms and public spaces.
  • Wash windows and glass surfaces.
  • Clean elevators and door tracks.
  • Change light bulbs (if safe to do so).
  • Strip, clean, buff, and wax hard floor surfaces.
  • Wash walls, bathroom stalls, and other soiled surfaces.
  • Snow clearing and other outdoor cleaning duties.
  • Properly use and maintain cleaning equipment and supplies.
  • Maintain building security by locking doors and setting alarms as needed.
  • Assist in setting up the building for meetings and special events.

Requirements:

  • Grade 12 or equivalent level of education and experience.
  • 1 year of experience in a similar role with a sound knowledge of commercial cleaning methods, equipment, and job performance standards.
  • Clear criminal record check and child abuse registry check required.

Specialized Skills:

  • Safe use of floor polishers, automated floor scrubbers, vacuums, and carpet cleaners.
  • WHMIS training or willingness to train.
  • First Aid/CPR or willingness to train.
  • Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) and proper use and care.

Physical Requirements:

  • Able to lift 50 lbs (22kg) – moderate physical effort.
  • Minor exposure to dirt, dust, fumes.
  • Able to stand, crouch, kneel for extended periods.
  • Able to regularly use stairs in a multi-storey building.
  • Close attention to detail.

Working Conditions:

The position requires working in a fast-paced environment with moderate physical demands. The successful candidate will be able to work independently and as part of a team, with a strong focus on attention to detail and customer service.
