The Lax Kw'alaams Band is seeking a full-time experienced Guidance Specialist to provide direct social-emotional, academic and career-vocational support to students, their families and supporting staff.

Job Summary

This position will play an integral part of our school-based team, utilizing expertise in education psychology or counselling psychology to create a positive and supportive learning environment. As a Guidance Specialist, you will work closely with students, parents and teachers to promote academic achievement and overall well-being.

About the Position
  • Develop and implement guidance programs that align with the needs of our Indigenous youth
  • Provide individual and group counselling sessions to students, addressing social-emotional, academic and career concerns
  • Collaborate with teachers and other school staff to ensure seamless support for students
  • Maintain accurate records of student progress and communication with parents
Requirements

To be successful in this role, you will require:

  • A Bachelor's or Master's Degree in Education Psychology or Counselling Psychology
  • BC Teacher Certification and membership with the Teacher Regulation Branch (an asset)
  • Experience working with Indigenous children, adults and families (an asset)
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
  • Proven ability to establish open, trusting relationships with youth
  • Clear Criminal Record Check working with vulnerable populations
Compensation

We offer a competitive salary range of $80,000 - $110,000 per annum, depending on experience. Additionally, we provide:
