Job Overview

MDA Space is seeking a skilled and experienced Supervisor - Digital and Analog Hardware Design Department to join our team. As a key member of our leadership team, you will be responsible for supervising and mentoring multidisciplinary teams to achieve optimal production results.

Key Responsibilities

  • Recruit, assign, direct, and evaluate the work of employees, ensuring overall employee performance and conducting annual performance appraisals.
  • Provide staffing expertise to support program demands, ensuring that staffing supports current and future MDA programs.
  • Develop staff to ensure necessary skill sets, establishing and regularly updating succession plans for key skills to avoid single point failures and bottlenecks in resource allocation.
  • Ensure group competency remains abreast of state-of-the-art techniques in engineering, manufacturing, and support service disciplines.
  • Oversee engineering facilities, processes, and tools required to support department activities and program needs.
  • Identify and manage facility conflicts between programs for flight or development activities as appropriate to the department.
  • Support management of departmental overhead budget within allocation and provide forecasts to finance as required.
  • Support coordination of capital planning for the department, proposing necessary capital investment items with proper financial justification and implementing procurement.
  • Ensure the proper application of the company's collective agreements.

Technical Overview

  • Participate in or lead Technical Overview Board (TOB) meetings.
  • Coordinate and ensure distribution of lessons learned.
  • Support internal and external audits and ensure corrective actions are implemented as required.
  • Promote a Design for Manufacturing (DFM) culture.
  • Participate in or lead technical troubleshooting and problem-solving.
  • Provide expert support to MRBs and customer enquiries where needed.

Process Development, Maintenance, and Application

  • Ensure proper application and adherence to overall company policies and processes by staff in the department.
  • Support development and maintenance of departmental specific policies, processes, work instructions, and standards, ensuring they are available to and followed by staff.
  • Propose and lead new initiatives or participate in initiatives for business process improvement (BPI) to improve departmental or global efficiency.
  • Act as the area owner and ensure all Health & Safety procedures and policies are adhered to and maintained.

Front End of the Business

  • Provide support and participate in proposal activities.
  • Make recommendations to the product development organization for new products and R&D initiatives in line with the company's strategic direction.
  • Support and coordinate patent applications in conjunction with the product development organization, ensuring that the company's trade secrets and proprietary information is protected and handled securely.

Requirements

  • Minimum 5 years of experience in the field of engineering/manufacturing, preferably in the space industry or related area.
  • Demonstrated superior ability for people skills, conflict resolution, and leadership skills.
  • Career aspirations to managing teams of people in a dynamic environment.
  • Experience or interest in developing skills in resource management, negotiations, risk management techniques, and financial reporting.
  • Good communicator in English (written and spoken).
