About the Role

We are seeking a skilled Software Development Manager to join our team at Loblaw Digital. As a key member of our engineering organization, you will be responsible for leading a team of software developers and engineers to design, develop, and maintain our Campaign Manager tool.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop and execute a long-term vision for the team, aligning with the company's strategic and tactical goals.
  • Lead and empower a high-performing engineering team, fostering a culture of technical excellence and innovation.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including product, design, and engineering, to execute on product and business strategy.
  • Design, develop, and implement the backend architecture and web application for Campaign Manager.
  • Champion a culture of continuous learning and improvement, promoting best practices and exploring cutting-edge technologies.
  • Participate in the full development cycle, from design and development to testing, experimentation, analysis, and launch.
  • Coach and mentor engineers, providing technical guidance and conducting code reviews.
  • Hold regular one-on-one meetings with team members to provide feedback and discuss career development goals.

Requirements

  • A deep understanding of software development with a minimum of 7 years of hands-on programming expertise.
  • Experience in developing large applications within a team environment, comfortable working in a highly collaborative cross-functional setup.
  • A track record of successfully mentoring and nurturing other software developers in previous managerial roles.
  • Opinionated about what constitutes great software, with a willingness to remain open to others' ideas and perspectives.
  • Proficient in software estimation, adept at handling complexity and uncertainty.
  • Decision-making based on data is a forte, with proficiency in utilizing tools to measure various aspects of applications and team performance.
  • Excellent communication skills, able to effectively collaborate with teams in a fully remote setting and articulate complex topics to both technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Open-minded and enthusiastic about learning and sharing knowledge, always on the lookout for better approaches to tasks.
  • Proficient in developing complex consumer-facing software using Java, Spring Boot, React, and Cloud Technologies (Google Cloud Platform, AWS, Azure).
