About the Role
We are seeking a highly skilled and motivated patent agent to join our team at PCK Intellectual Property.
As a patent agent, you will be responsible for assisting with and overseeing patent filings before CIPO, USPTO, and WIPO. You will also respond to both foreign and domestic Office Actions, maintain and oversee patent files via electronic docketing system, correspond with clients, foreign associates, and patent offices, perform patentability searches, landscape searches, freedom to operate searches, prepare patentability opinions, build and maintain successful client relationships, attend client intake meetings and invention disclosure sessions, meet with inventors to identify their invention's points of novelty, draft patent applications for foreign and domestic filings, visit clients, incubators, and other stakeholders in the GTA/Kitchener Waterloo corridor, attend conferences, and participate in other business development initiatives.

PCK Intellectual Property is a boutique professional services firm comprising patent and trademark agents with backgrounds in engineering, science, mathematics, and physics. We have a strong originating patent drafting practice acting directly before the USPTO and WIPO in the areas of IP strategy, including drafting of applications and prosecution on behalf of clients based in Canada, the USA, and Europe.
Your Skills and Qualifications
- Class 1 or Class 2 CPATA license status preferred but will welcome applications of registered patent agents/attorneys from other jurisdictions with strong résumés and willingness to pursue CPATA Class 1 license.
- Successful completion of a degree in engineering, computer science, science, or a related field.
- Minimum of two years' relevant experience in patent drafting and prosecution for both Canadian and foreign jurisdictions in a law firm context or in a corporate (in-house) IP group.
- Client-oriented and results-driven mindset, ability to work well in a fast-paced environment.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills with the ability to structure information clearly, concisely, and logically.
- Excellent time management skills.
- High level of motivation and commitment.
- Ability to work both independently and as part of a team and foster positive client and colleague relationships.
