Job Description

As an Estimator Assistant at Arnett & Burgess Energy Services, you will play a crucial role in supporting the Bid Tender Process. This position involves providing timely and accurate implementation, administration, maintenance, monitoring, and execution of the bid process.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Evaluate Bid Specifications and Drawings: Assist in reviewing bid specifications and drawings to identify areas of concern and determine equipment and labor requirements.
  • Develop Successful Bid Tenders: Accurately develop bid tenders and strategies for small to large-sized pipeline construction projects.
  • Support Bid Tender Phase: Assist in reviewing drawings, identifying areas of concern, determining equipment and labor requirements, projecting timelines, preparing cost summaries, contacting vendors and stakeholders, and ensuring bids are submitted accurately and on time.
  • Implement Bid Strategies: Assist in establishing and documenting consistent project estimating guidelines, standards, and structure.
  • Prepare Complex Pipeline Construction Estimates: Assist in preparing complex pipeline construction estimates.
  • Participate in Pre-Bid Meetings: Participate in pre-bid meetings, including field office, client, and site visits as required.
  • Administer Bid Pre-Qualifications: Assist in the administration of bid pre-qualifications.
  • Identify Scope of Work: Identify the scope of work based on bid specifications and drawings.
  • Communicate with Project Leads: Consistently communicate with project leads to identify resource requirements and potential issues and solutions.
  • Meet Deadlines: Meet multiple deadlines and ensure tenders are submitted on time.
  • Participate in Internal Meetings: Participate in internal meetings regarding costs, tracking, and A&B pre-kickoff meetings.
  • Obtain and Review Subcontractor Quotations: Obtain and review subcontractor quotations.
Requirements:
  • Residency: Reside in the Blackfalds, Alberta area or be willing to relocate.
  • Education: New or recent graduate of an accredited Canadian Engineering program.
  • Registration: Registered as an engineer-in-training with the applicable governing body (APEGA or equivalent).
  • Experience: 1-2 years of experience in the below-ground utility (pipeline) industry is considered an asset.
  • Skills and Knowledge: Understanding of the oil and gas pipeline construction industry is an asset.
  • Ability to Read and Understand Construction Documents: Ability to read and understand relevant construction documents, including drawings and specifications.
  • Estimating and Project Management: Understanding of estimating and project management theories, methodologies, and industry practices is considered an asset.
  • Ability to Prioritize and Multitask: Ability to prioritize, multitask, and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
  • Estimating Experience: Experience estimating small to large-sized pipeline construction projects is considered an asset.
  • Team Player: A team player with excellent attention to detail, a strong work ethic, and excellent oral communication skills.
  • Computer Skills: Strong computer skills, including MS Word, Excel, scheduling software, and Outlook.
  • Previous Experience: Previous experience developing technical plans for submission to clients is an asset.
