Pacmed Operator

Under the direct supervision of a licensed Pharmacist, the Pacmed Operator will be the primary operator of the Automatic Packager (Pacmed) equipment for fulfilling pharmacy orders and will assist the pharmacist/pharmacy assistants in the preparation and labeling of medications/devices as allowed by law.

• Assist the pharmacist in maintaining federal, provincial, and local laws, accrediting body standards, and Policies and Procedures (P&Ps)
• Prepare unit dose and multi-dose strip packaging of medications using the Pacmed packaging equipment, in addition to assisting in the counting, labeling, and packaging of other medications as needed
• Manually adjust strips and help to return to stock medications previously packaged when necessary
• Prepare and print PACMED reports from Kroll
• Maintain the inventory of the Pacmed machine canisters by placing the appropriate orders, updating Core software, and filling/changing canisters as required
• Update preferred brands to be used in the pharmacy in the Kroll pharmacy system and Pacmed Core system
• Maintain inventory of supplies necessary for operation of the Pacmed equipment
• Change printer ribbons, packaging ribbon, and perform recommended cleaning procedure for Pacmed equipment
• Assist in ensuring that the pharmacy is fully stocked with medications needed to process upcoming refills, including those for "autorefill" prescriptions, and prescriptions that are in scheduled batches
• Assist the pharmacists/pharmacy assistants in the preparation and labeling of medications/devices as allowed by law
• Assist the pharmacist in handling drug/product recalls, recovering stock from patients, and returning for credit as per the recall notice, while adjusting system inventory counts
• Maintain pharmacy records, including filing and documenting required information on dispensing records
• Assist the pharmacist in entering prescriptions into the prescription software (Kroll), and filling/billing such prescriptions, when necessary
• Communicate appropriately with all members of the healthcare team
• Document appropriately according to P&Ps, all activities using required paperwork (e.g., Pacmed batch logs)
• Participate in Performance Improvement and Quality Assurance activities, education programs, and department/branch meetings
• Perform other duties as assigned

• Experience with PACMED or automated packaging machine is a must
• Pharmacy Assistant Certificate/Diploma from an accredited institution is preferred
• Experience in a busy community pharmacy setting or specialty pharmacy setting is preferred
• Experience with Kroll pharmacy software is an asset

• The employee is regularly required to talk and hear
• Use computer and other equipment and reach with hands and arms
• May need to kneel or bend when operating equipment
• Vision requirements include close vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus
• Lifting required as per employee capacity, employee must notify Supervisor regarding any health issues that may affect ability to lift

• While performing the duties of this job, the employee may be exposed to fumes or airborne particles
• The employee may be occasionally exposed to toxic or caustic chemicals
• The employee will be working near moving parts
• The noise level in this work environment is usually moderate
