Job Overview

We are seeking a Global Media Lawyer to support our team at Reuters. This is a unique role that requires an experienced commercial lawyer who can negotiate complex media/technology deals and provide creative legal advice on multijurisdictional issues.

The successful candidate will work closely with Reuters leadership in New York and London, and in coordination with Thomson Reuters lawyers and staff around the world.

About the Role

As a Senior Counsel for Reuters, your primary responsibility will be to support the growth of relationships between Reuters and its clients and partners in a fast-evolving, global environment.

You will be responsible for negotiating media licensing and partnership deals, providing timely and clear legal advice on issues across the media business, supporting business stakeholders in analyzing novel technologies and use cases through a legal lens, ensuring compliance with the Thomson Reuters Trust Principles, and tracking global legal developments affecting the interests of news and media businesses.

Key Responsibilities

  • Negotiate media licensing and partnership deals
  • Provide timely and clear legal advice on issues across the media business
  • Support business stakeholders in analyzing novel technologies and use cases through a legal lens
  • Ensure compliance with the Thomson Reuters Trust Principles
  • Track global legal developments affecting the interests of news and media businesses

Requirements

To be successful in this role, you will need to have:

  • Substantial post-qualification experience negotiating media licensing deals and advising clients in news/media/information/technology industries
  • The ability to advocate for the interests of business partners in commercial disputes
  • A depth and breadth of experience in acting in intellectual property matters, especially copyright
  • The ability to work independently, prioritize and meet deadlines and demands in a fast-paced environment

Desirable Skills

  • Understanding of AI/ML technologies
  • Experience communicating across diverse geographies and cultures as part of a global team

What We Offer

We offer a competitive salary range of $180,000 - $250,000 per year, depending on experience. You will also receive comprehensive benefits, including health insurance, retirement savings plan, and generous paid time off.
