Real Estate Sustainability Specialist

Vaco is an owner, manager and developer of well-located retail and commercial real estate across Canada.
Job OverviewThis is a hybrid role with office in downtown Toronto, requiring 3x in-office presence per week. The Senior Director, Asset Management will be responsible for leading initiatives to reduce energy and greenhouse gas emissions across a portfolio of retail, industrial, office and residential properties.
Responsibilities- Lead the implementation of identified decarbonization strategies to achieve long-term net zero goal
- Identify risks and opportunities related to decarbonization and integrate them into enterprise risk management
- Prepare well-structured reports and present to senior executives to guide decisions
- Manage the execution of decarbonization initiatives, ensuring timely and within budget delivery & targeted outcomes for existing operations and new developments
- Analyze and prioritize projects that cut energy and emissions, like upgrades and changes to how we operate
- Manage external consultants to provide ongoing performance data for review on future projects
- Provide technical guidance for the implementation of energy and carbon reduction retrofits, metering, data collection and solar projects
- Deliver education and training of team members in other business units to enable the implementation of decarbonization projects
- 7+ years of experience in energy management for various types of real estate (retail, industrial, or multi-unit residential)
- SUCCESSFUL HISTORY OF REDUCING ENERGY USAGE AND EMISSIONS
- Bachelor's degree in engineering, such as mechanical, systems, electrical, or related fields
- Certified Energy Manager (CEM), Certified Energy Auditor (CEA), Certified Measurement & Verification Professional (CMVP), CCP (Certified Commissioning Professional) accreditation an asset
- Expertise with building energy and carbon reduction strategies, data analytics and sustainability practices in addition to metering and energy analytics
- Strong skills in Microsoft Office Suite, specifically PowerPoint and Excel
- Excellent communication and presentation skills, including the ability to effectively manage and lead projects and programs involving internal stakeholders
We offer competitive compensation, salary range approximately $120,000 - $180,000 annually, commensurate with experience.
