Job Title: Research Officer, Building Acoustics

We are seeking a highly skilled Research Officer, Building Acoustics to join our team at the National Research Council Canada. As a key member of our Construction Research Centre, you will be responsible for conducting research and developing advanced technologies to improve the acoustic performance of buildings.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Design and conduct research activities to evaluate and control sound transmission in buildings.
  • Develop and apply advanced measurement instrumentation and methods to characterize sound fields and sound transmission.
  • Collaborate with researchers and technical experts to develop and deploy technical solutions for construction sector clients.
  • Transfer research findings to industry and stakeholders through written documentation, presentations, and publishing.
Requirements:
  • PhD in a relevant field of Engineering, such as Acoustic, Architectural, Civil, Mechanical, or Electrical.
  • Significant experience in designing and conducting research activities dealing with the evaluation and control of sound transmission in buildings.
  • Experience in experimental design and analysis, including data collection and analysis, overseeing data production, and ensuring data quality.
  • Experience using measurement systems and analysis techniques to characterize sound fields and sound transmission.
  • Experience in identification of research requirements, proposal writing, project management, and reporting.
Competencies:
  • Advanced knowledge of physical acoustics, including sound transmission in buildings.
  • Advanced knowledge of measurement instrumentation and methods to characterize direct and flanking transmission in buildings for airborne and impact sound.
  • Solid knowledge of acoustical signal analysis.
  • Ability to design and use electro-acoustic instrumentation systems to measure, control, and characterize sound fields in buildings.
