Tobacco Control Officer

At Fraser Health, we are seeking a highly skilled Tobacco Control Officer to join our team in Surrey, B.C. as a key member of our regulatory enforcement unit.
About the RoleThis is an exceptional opportunity for an individual who is passionate about promoting public health and preventing tobacco-related harm. As a Tobacco Control Officer, you will play a critical role in implementing education and enforcement programs aimed at reducing tobacco use among youth and adults.
Key Responsibilities:- Conduct regular inspections of tobacco retailers to ensure compliance with applicable federal, provincial, and municipal regulations and standards.
- Investigate and perform inspectional, regulatory and enforcement duties on tobacco control matters, including investigating complaints and issuing warning letters and violation tickets as necessary.
- Provide advice and information to the community and public on tobacco control matters, including responding to public enquiries and complaints regarding regulations and health concerns related to tobacco use.
- Collaborate with other Health professionals in the delivery of tobacco control programs, initiatives and objectives, including working with Public Health Inspectors, Ministry of Health Services staff, Health Canada Tobacco Inspectors, and other Health Authority teams.
- Stay up-to-date with all Tobacco Control legislation and develop recommendations for improved standards and controls for tobacco enforcement program enhancement and developments.
We are looking for an individual with a strong background in regulatory enforcement, education or a related field. The ideal candidate will have excellent analytical, communication, and problem-solving skills, as well as the ability to work independently under limited supervision.
Requirements- Diploma in social sciences, education, policing or health-related field.
- Three years' recent experience in regulatory enforcement, or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.
- Must be eligible for designation by the Minister of Health Services as an enforcement officer pursuant to S.3(1) of the Tobacco and Vapour Products Control Act.
- Valid B.C. Class V Driver's license and access to own vehicle.

The estimated salary for this position is between CAD $45,000 and $60,000 per year, based on qualifications and experience.
