Manager, Government and Stakeholder Relations

At Toronto Pearson International, we're seeking a skilled Manager, Government and Stakeholder Relations to join our team. As a key member of our organization, you will play a critical role in building and maintaining relationships with government officials and key stakeholders to enhance awareness, understanding, and engagement in our airport's projects.

About the Role

This is a unique opportunity to work in a dynamic and fast-paced environment, where you will be responsible for developing and maintaining strong relationships with government officials, key stakeholders, and internal teams. You will also represent our airport in government meetings, events, and industry initiatives, and support the Executive Team and Board of Directors in stakeholder engagement.

Key Responsibilities

  1. Develop and maintain effective relationships with government officials and key stakeholders to advance our airport's interests.
  2. Represent our airport in government meetings, events, and industry initiatives.
  3. Support the Executive Team and Board of Directors in stakeholder engagement.
  4. Stay informed of government agendas, priorities, and activities, and provide strategic advice to our leadership team.
  5. Develop and implement coordinated public affairs strategies, issues management plans, and build advocacy coalitions.
  6. Conduct stakeholder mapping to identify supporters and detractors, and inform outreach plans and strategies.
  7. Assist departments with input for media, communication, noise management, and community relations.
  8. Prepare briefing materials and discussion documents for Executive and Board on government and stakeholder issues.
  9. Research and prepare briefing materials and submissions for elected and non-elected officials.
  10. Contribute to the development of digital and other online tools to support public affairs activities.
  11. Engage with external government relations firms to advance files.
  12. Develop, monitor, and maintain logs, databases, records, chronicling issues, actions taken, and results.
  13. Track and report on corporate requirements under the various lobbyist registration regimes.
  14. Establish work plans to track progress and goals, and monitor costs and expenses.
  15. Conduct policy analysis to determine relevance to our airport.
  16. Support reputation research to monitor effectiveness of programs and support annual planning.
  17. Commit to and role model the GTAA Leadership Behaviours to support and further our airport's vision through the build and development of diverse, multi-skilled teams.

Requirements

  1. Post-Secondary diploma in public affairs, government relations, communications, or a similar field, or relevant experience.
  2. Minimum 5 years' experience in government relations, in a government/political office, or equivalent experience.
  3. Minimum 2 years' experience in People Management directly or indirectly through cross-functional teams.
  4. Industry experience in aviation, airline, and transportation is considered an asset.
  5. Industry experience with land use planning and public transportation planning is considered an asset.
  6. Ability to obtain and retain Transportation Security Clearance at the designated level for the position.
