A Day in the Life of an Intermediate Structural Engineer at GEI
In this role, you will be part of our Infrastructure Renewal, Design, and Construction Team. You will work on capital delivery projects for municipal clients, providing structural engineering solutions for infrastructure such as bridges, roads, water treatment/distribution systems, and wastewater collection/treatment facilities.
Your Key Responsibilities
- Conduct structural condition assessments of various assets, including buildings, valve chambers, bridges, and other structures.
- Review and prepare detailed structural engineering design calculations and drawings prepared by technologists, EITs, and other Professional Engineers.
- Develop professional communications, such as letters, technical memoranda, and reports, for client deliverables.
- Support business development through the preparation of work plans, fee estimates, and formal proposals in response to Requests for Proposals (RFPs).
- Prepare structural engineering drawings and design reports.
- Develop cost estimates and construction specifications.
- Support the permitting and approvals processes, including building permit applications.
- Inspect construction activities, review shop drawings, and provide contract administration support.
- Mentor and support young staff in their career development, as well as receive mentoring and support for your own growth.

About the Role
This position requires a Licensed Professional Engineer in the Province of Ontario with 7+ years of experience in structural engineering design and construction. You should have knowledge of relevant codes and standards, including the Ontario Building Code, Canadian Highway Bridge Design Code, and Ministry of Transportation of Ontario's Structural Manual. Experience with OSIM inspections, structural rehabilitation projects, and administration of construction contracts is also necessary.
