The Opportunity

We are seeking a highly skilled and compassionate Education Assistant to join our team at University Hill Secondary. As a key member of our support staff, you will play a vital role in ensuring the academic and personal success of our students with visual impairments.

Key Responsibilities
  • Develop and implement individualized programs and contracts for students who require specialized support
  • Evaluate and maintain records of student progress, collaborating with colleagues to make informed decisions
  • Organize and participate in a range of activities, including field trips, sports, and social events, to promote student engagement and inclusivity
  • Provide support with social and emotional challenges, as well as daily living skills, to ensure students' overall well-being
  • Supervise students, address disciplinary issues, and maintain a safe and respectful learning environment
  • Prepare instructional materials, operate assistive technology, and create tactile resources to support student learning
Qualifications

We are looking for an individual with a strong educational background, preferably in Special Education or a related field. Experience working with students with visual impairments and knowledge of Unified English Braille code are highly desirable. Additionally, formal training in childcare, child development, behavior management, and social sciences would be an asset.

As a member of our team, you will possess excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work collaboratively with educators, students, and families. You will also be able to lift and position students of varying weights, as required.
