R3 Environmental Services, a division of The Municipal Group of Companies, is a leading environmental services company providing soil and wastewater treatment in Nova Scotia. We are seeking a highly skilled Operations Manager to oversee the efficient operation of our new Wastewater/Waste Oil Treatment Facility in Halifax, NS.

Job Summary:

As Operations Manager, you will report to the General Manager and be responsible for overseeing all functions of the facility, ensuring effective supervision and support to meet performance standards. A strategic thinker with a focus on excellence in customer service, employee engagement, and financial performance is required.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Oversee daily activities, including wastewater/oil collection, staffing, plant operations, and maintenance of the facility through regular inspections and preventive maintenance programs.
  • Lead financial management efforts, including budget planning, administration, and monitoring.
  • Ensure adherence to company safety programs and policies, reviewing and monitoring safety issues to implement corrective actions and ensure compliance with legislation and contract obligations.
  • Collaborate with the General Manager to develop short-term and long-term goals, policies, and objectives for the facility, leading the administration and implementation of action plans to meet or exceed Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) and budget forecasts.
  • Conduct studies, self-audits, and investigations, making recommendations for modifications to operations, policies, and procedures.
  • Monitor productivity, trends, and efficiency, implementing changes for continuous improvement.
  • Coordinate with the maintenance department to ensure operational equipment is properly maintained and available through timely preventive maintenance programs.

Requirements:

  • Previous experience in a management or leadership role within a waste management, treatment, or related industry is preferred.
  • Combination of education and/or experience in Facility Management, Operations Management, or a related field is required.
  • Background in environmental services or operational management is an asset.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite for reporting and communication is necessary.
  • Understanding of budgeting and financial reporting is required.
  • Ability to develop and manage capital budgets and monitor performance against financial targets is essential.
  • Strong problem-solving skills with the ability to anticipate challenges and proactively implement solutions to enhance operational efficiency are necessary.
  • Strong communication skills, both verbal and written, to effectively interface with senior leadership, customers, and employees are required.
  • Ability to build and sustain productive relationships with clients, vendors, and stakeholders is essential.
  • Experience in leading safety programs and ensuring compliance with company policies and regulatory requirements is necessary.
