Your Opportunity:

Alberta Health Services is seeking a dedicated and compassionate Indigenous Wellness Coordinator to join our team. As a key member of the Indigenous Wellness Core, you will play a vital role in supporting innovation and improvement in Indigenous Health, working towards health equity for Indigenous peoples and communities.

Description:

The Indigenous Wellness Coordinator provides advocacy, counseling, support, education, and facilitation of traditional Indigenous wellness services to patients, families, and health professionals. You will facilitate and provide education about respectful relationships and healthcare for Indigenous people, building increased understanding and trust between Indigenous people and healthcare providers.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide traditional Indigenous wellness services to patients, families, and health professionals
  • Facilitate and provide education about respectful relationships and healthcare for Indigenous people
  • Build increased understanding and trust between Indigenous people and healthcare providers
  • Work collaboratively with the Manager, Edmonton and Central Zones, Indigenous Wellness Core to develop and implement wellness programs

Required Qualifications:

  • Recognized by an Indigenous community as being competent in the use of traditional Indigenous practices
  • Training and guidance in the use of traditional Indigenous approaches to wellbeing
  • Ability to facilitate connection to traditional wellness practices
  • Previous experience in a healthcare setting or in a human services field outside of healthcare

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Secondary degree in healthcare or social sciences
  • College certificate/diploma in a related healthcare discipline
  • Ability to speak or understand any of the traditional languages within Northern Alberta
