High-Voltage Transmission System Designer

We are seeking a highly motivated and experienced Intermediate Lines Design Engineer to join our Calgary engineering team at PHASOR Engineering Inc. Our dynamic consulting firm specializes in the engineering and design of overhead and underground transmission/distribution systems, substations, fibre optics, as well as substation and transmission foundations.
As an Intermediate Lines Design Engineer, you will be fully involved in all aspects of the engineering and design process. Your key responsibilities will include:
- Design Development: Assist in the design of overhead and underground power delivery systems ranging from 4kV to 500kV by creating detailed scopes and estimates, performing calculations, and developing design drawings following applicable utility, national or international standards and codes.
- Collaboration and Communication: Interact with internal/external contacts as necessary for design details.
- Technical Support: Support Professional Engineers with detailed technical studies and/or calculations; the creation of equipment specifications and installation standards.
- Procurement Support: Provide procurement support, material take-offs, requisitions, and technical evaluations.
- Electrical Equipment Design: Design and evaluate various electrical equipment components.
- Fibre Design Collaboration: Work with Telecom designers in fibre design for the approval and implementation of joint-use applications.
- Design Package Preparation: Aid in the preparation of design packages for client reviews and construction.
- Design Issue Escalation: Escalate design issues to Professional Engineers for review and direction.
- Calculation and Review: Perform calculations related to the design of overhead and underground systems. Review designs to ensure accuracy, perform quality control and quality checks prior to project release.
- Project Coordination: Support project coordination documentation and activities.
To be successful in this role, you will require:
- A Diploma in Electrical/Civil Engineering Technology or Degree in Electrical/Civil Engineering.
- Experience in design and construction is an asset.
- Proficiency in AutoCAD and Microsoft Office applications, including Microsoft Word and Excel.
- Familiarity with power system operations, practices, and installation standards would be ideal.
- A valid Class 5 Driver's License.
