Network Specialist Job Description

We are seeking an experienced Network Specialist to join our highly technical Network Services team at E-Comm 9-1-1.

About the Role
  • The Network Specialist plays a key role in ensuring the stability, security, and performance of public safety and critical 911 voice networks.
  • This position is responsible for providing second-level network support, troubleshooting advanced network issues, performing proactive maintenance, and documenting network activities.
Key Responsibilities
  • Network Administration: Serve as a network administrator, monitoring and maintaining system health, ensuring regular backups are performed on all network equipment.
  • Network Performance Monitoring & Troubleshooting: Continuously monitor network performance, proactively addressing issues, and conducting tuning to align with service agreements.
  • Configuration & Maintenance: Analyze, configure, and resolve network-related issues (e.g., security and performance metrics) to ensure network responsiveness, efficiency, and stability; work alongside the Senior Network Specialist to implement equipment changes and configurations.
  • Incident & Problem Management: Provide second-level support, perform incident diagnosis and root cause analysis on system performance issues; maintain accurate records, documents, and statistics related to network operations and incident resolutions.
  • Technology & Best Practice Awareness: Stay current with evolving network technologies, best practices, security threats, and protection mechanisms to ensure optimal network safety and performance.
  • Documentation & Communication: Prepare and maintain various technical documents and records; effectively communicate technical concepts, advice, and presentations to internal and external stakeholders.
Requirements
  • Degree in Computer Science, Network Engineering, or a related engineering discipline, or a combination of equivalent training and hands-on experience will also be considered.
  • Cisco Certified Network Associate (CCNA) certification is required.
  • ITIL Foundation v3 (or later) accreditation is preferred.
  • In-depth knowledge of network technologies and standards, including switches, routers, firewalls, VPN, encryption, routing protocols, high availability protocols, and virtualization technologies.
  • Strong ability to troubleshoot complex network issues, perform testing, and conduct root cause analysis to address network challenges effectively.
  • Proven ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with internal teams, customers, and external partners.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to translate complex technical concepts into clear advice and presentations.
  • Ability to manage tasks and responsibilities with minimal supervision, prioritizing network stability and performance.
