Job Summary

We are seeking a Casual Switchboard Operator/Health Records Clerk to join our team at Golden & District Hospital. This is a casual opportunity with no guaranteed hours, and work requirements can vary from 0 - 37.5 hours per week.

About the Role

This position performs a variety of clerical duties including operating the switchboard, patient registration, health records, cashier functions, and maintaining supplies. The ideal candidate will have excellent communication and organizational skills, as well as the ability to work effectively in a fast-paced environment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Operate the switchboard and public address system, receiving and directing patients and visitors
  • Perform health records duties, including pulling and assembling charts/files, identifying and processing corrections, and reviewing completed charts for accuracy
  • Respond to and monitor hospital alarms and emergency codes
  • Maintain physician on-call/vacation lists and other hospital staff
  • Provide patient registration services
  • Conduct cashier duties, including receiving payments, recording payments in cash journals, and issuing change and receipts
  • Maintain supply inventory by ordering stock and non-stock items
  • Receive, check, and deposit patient valuables for safekeeping
  • Perform clerical duties, including typing, compiling, and distributing various documents/lists/schedules, and completing data entry for pre-admissions, admissions, discharges, and transfers

Requirements

  • Grade twelve diploma
  • One (1) year of recent, related experience or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience
  • Ability to keyboard at 45 wpm
  • Ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing
  • Ability to deal with others effectively
  • Physical ability to carry out the duties of the position
  • Ability to organize work
  • Ability to operate related equipment

Compensation

The estimated salary range for this position is $25-$35 per hour, depending on qualifications and experience. Please note that this is an estimate based on industry standards and may vary.
