Estimated Salary: $175,000 - $225,000 per year

We are seeking a highly skilled Medical Officer of Health and Wellness Specialist to join our team at the Magna Health Centre (MHC). As a multidisciplinary health clinic, we provide family medicine, occupational health services, massage therapy, and chiropractic care to Magna employees and individuals in the community.

Key Responsibilities:

Family Medicine

  1. Conduct thorough examinations of patients and take detailed medical histories.
  2. Treat a wide range of illnesses, from minor to life-threatening, and prescribe medications as needed.
  3. Order laboratory tests and other diagnostic procedures such as x-rays, ultrasounds, CT/MRIs, and cardiac tests.
  4. Consult with specialists and refer patients to other healthcare professionals when necessary.
  5. Refer patients to community-based resources for support and home care services.
  6. Vaccinate patients according to the Public Health vaccination schedule and travel guidelines.
  7. Provide counseling and support to patients and their families on various health and lifestyle issues.
  8. Screen for health risks and educate patients on preventive care and screening.

Occupational Medicine

  1. Communicate effectively with community healthcare providers regarding absence management, disability management, and accommodation matters.
  2. Support the Occupation Health & Safety (OHS) team in evaluating and implementing accommodation requests.
  3. Contribute to the company's health promotion and education program.
  4. Collaborate with OHS to implement policies and ensure health and safety compliance.
  5. Examine employees, obtain relevant medical histories, order tests, and consult with other medical practitioners to prevent occupational disease and workplace injury.
  6. Perform occupational health screenings, including forklift medicals.
Qualifications and Requirements:

Knowledge and Education:

  1. Holds a valid license as a family physician in good standing with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Ontario.
  2. Prefers candidates who are members of the Canadian Board of Occupational Medicine at the ACBOM or CCBOM level.

Work Experience:

  1. Minimum 2-3 years of experience as a family physician.
  2. 1-2 years of experience in occupational medicine.
Skills and Competencies:
  1. Ability to examine patients, diagnose, treat, refer, and prescribe medication as required.
  2. Capacity to review medical notes for accommodation purposes and determine employee needs based on provided information.
  3. Ability to work in a standard office environment.
  4. Minimal travel requirements.
