Job Summary

We are seeking a skilled Rehabilitation Assistant to join our team at Abbotsford Regional Hospital and Cancer Centre. As a key member of our interprofessional care team, you will work under the direction of a professional nurse and/or therapist to implement treatment plans and assist patients with their rehabilitation goals.

Key Responsibilities

  1. Carry out designated components of a rehabilitative treatment plan under the direction of a physiotherapist or occupational therapist, including activities of daily living, mobility, and strengthening and balancing exercises.
  2. Assist patients with mobility and provide training on the use of assistive devices, such as wheelchairs and walkers.
  3. Observe and report changes in patient ability or behavior that may warrant a progression or regression of the treatment plan.
  4. Participate in the planning, implementation, and evaluation of treatment plans as part of a multidisciplinary team.
  5. Perform various tests and assessments as assigned by PT or OT, such as the Berg Balance and Timed Up and Go tests.

Requirements

Education and Experience:

  • Completion of a Rehabilitation Assistant Program or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.

Skills and Abilities:

  • Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing.
  • Ability to deal with others effectively.
  • Physical ability to carry out the duties of the position.
  • Ability to organize work.
  • Ability to operate related equipment.
