Pharmacy Technician Position for a Diverse Healthcare Team

Northumberland Hills Hospital is a vibrant community hospital located approximately 100 kilometres east of Toronto, serving a growing population of over 60,000 residents. We offer a range of acute, post-acute, outpatient, and diagnostic services, directly employing around 750 people and relying on the support of physicians, midwives, and volunteers.
Job OverviewWe are seeking a skilled Pharmacy Technician to join our multidisciplinary team, reporting to the Manager of Pharmacy. The successful candidate will be responsible for duties such as drug distribution, dispensing, and repackaging medications, as well as maintaining established medication levels and conducting continuous improvement audits.
Key Responsibilities- Drug distribution to all clinical areas, including narcotic and controlled substances, patient-specific medication, stocking automated dispensing cabinets, verifying accuracy as part of "Tech-check-Tech"
- Dispensing of in-patient medications, leave of absence medications, and other patient-specific medication orders
- Generating BPMH from patient interview, collecting sources from community pharmacies or other facilities, and working closely with other interprofessional teams
- Drug repackaging, including narcotics, the use of automated packaging equipment and software
- Maintaining established medication levels in pharmacy as well as in the automated dispensing cabinets including narcotics and controlled substances
- Compounding and packaging of sterile and non-sterile medications including bio-hazardous agents in acceptance of manufacturing practice and WHMIS guidelines
- Conducting continuous improvement audits as designated, including expiration date, and monitoring and medication area inspections
- Maintenance of crash cart inventory and records
- Assisting in maintaining records of purchase, issue and returns in accordance with hospital and legal requirements
- Performing miscellaneous projects, filing and clerical duties as assigned
- A diploma from an accredited community college Pharmacy Technician program, or equivalent
- Registration with the OCP as a Registered Pharmacy Technician
- Recent hospital pharmacy experience preferred or comparable applicable work experience
- Familiarity with pharmacy and medical terminology, aseptic techniques, manufacturing and labeling standards of practice, pharmacy calculations required
- Recent hospital experience
- Knowledge of EPIC and Omnicell
- Demonstrate excellent interpersonal and communication skills
- Demonstrate ability to participate in a team environment
- Basic typing and computer skills
The salary for this position is $31.38 - $36.18 hourly, as per the OPSEU Collective Agreement. To be eligible for this role, applicants must provide a satisfactory vulnerable sector criminal reference check and complete the Health Care Worker Health review process within the specified timeframe.
