Job Overview

The VP-Director of Media Strategy and Planning leads the development of strategic media approaches and oversees all aspects of media planning, including budget control and campaign execution. This role works across functional teams to deliver integrated cross-channel media plans, combining digital (programmatic, endemic, social, search) and traditional (TV, print, OOH) media. The Director will determine goals and objectives for media programs, develop budget recommendations, and model outcomes to reach those goals.

This position supervises a team of planners and supervisors in developing subsequent plans, aligns with the analytics team on measurement plans, and ensures the team delivers, optimizes, and achieves client goals. A successful candidate will lead by example, mentoring junior team members while working alongside them as a colleague.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop strategic thinking for client media plans, collaborating with stakeholders to determine measurement techniques and evaluation criteria.
  • Work with senior leadership to establish annual budgets and staffing plans.
  • Manage accounts to ensure fiscally profitable staffing plans.
  • ID opportunities for account growth via new partnerships and additional media spend or fee-generating activities.
  • Lead the team in developing RFPs, lists of media partners, and evaluation criteria.
  • Oversee and assist junior team members in planning, execution, and campaign management.
  • Develop staff through performance management and consistent feedback.
  • Maintain relationships with internal stakeholders and external vendors to facilitate campaign implementation and measurement.
  • Monitor trends in advertising and healthcare, collaborating with stakeholders to develop client-facing perspectives, test-and-learn scenarios, and case studies.
  • Participate in new business pitches and proposals.
  • Supervise a team of three to six members, helping develop their skill sets and assigning relevant tasks for career growth and account management.

About You

  • 8+ years of agency experience in media planning and buying across online and offline channels.
  • Demonstrated ability to multitask, prioritize, and manage deadlines.
  • Account leadership, initiative, and willingness to assume greater responsibility.
  • Understanding of marketing communications plans and participation in their generation.
  • Ability to provide clear direction on work orders.
  • Direct experience with pharmaceutical and/or healthcare advertising for patients and physicians.
  • Knowledge of media planning, third-party tracking, ad serving technology, audience research tools, and paid social and search strategy.
  • Full-funnel media campaigns understanding and explanation ability.
  • Experience working within a full-service agency or client-side.
  • 3+ years of supervisory experience or related account management experience.
  • Bachelor's degree required, preferably in a related field.
