About Basetwo

We're a fast-growing Toronto-based startup backed by Boeing and top VCs in the Boston, Toronto, and Bay Area ecosystems. Our cloud-based SaaS enables manufacturing engineers to design, build, and operationalize 'digital twins' for process optimization.

The Role

We're looking for a world-class expert in Process Modelling & Control to lead our team and contribute significantly to our simulation engine's product vision. As the Head of Process Modelling & Control, you'll work closely with customers' subject matter experts and our Engineering team to deliver simulation solutions that address customer challenges in heavy industry and manufacturing.

Key Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with manufacturing SMEs to understand challenges, identify technical requirements, and implement advanced modeling and control solutions.
  • Develop heat and mass balance model templates for real-world chemical processes and combustion systems.
  • Drive product development related to simulation, model predictive control, and optimization, working with cross-functional teams to support roadmaps and feature iterations based on customer feedback.
  • Provide senior guidance on Basetwo's simulation strategy and solution development.
  • Advocate for best practices among the simulation team.
  • Support customer SMEs with configuring, training, and deploying simulation models using manufacturing and lab datasets.
  • Develop custom data transformation, modelling, and optimisation algorithms based on customer SME requirements.

Requirements

To succeed in this role, you'll need:

  • BASc, MASc or PhD in Chemical Engineering or equivalent.
  • 8+ years of experience with process modelling in real-world/industrial environments.
  • Product-driven thinking, mapping customer pain points to product features.
  • Proven skills in modelling and control, with demonstrable research/work related to process control, optimisation, simulation, and time series data.
  • Comfort building first-principle models and controllers from scratch in Python, reading/searching through research/academic literature to research complex problems.
  • SIGNIFICANT experience with Python scientific/engineering computing stack: dataframes (Pandas), Numpy, Scipy, and data visualisation tools (e.g., matplotlib).
  • Strong technical communication skills, comfortable with delivering technical presentations.

Estimated Salary: $120,000 - $180,000 per year.
