As a leading public fintech company, we are seeking an experienced Financial Law Specialist to join our team. This is a contract role for 9 months, requiring a Canadian law license and the ability to work remotely from either the US or Canada.

About the Role

This is a full-time position (40 hours per week) that involves providing legal advice to our Product teams as they develop and implement BNPL offerings in Canada. The ideal candidate will have significant payments experience and expertise in consumer laws and regulations.

The primary responsibilities of this role include:

  • Reviewing and advising on frameworks, policies, and processes to comply with the Retail Payments Activities Act (RPAA).
  • Advising on the implementation of IDV requirements for customers to address MAP requirements.
  • Providing guidance on how to allow merchants to use BNPL products embedded within e-commerce websites and mobile applications.
  • Assisting with product management regulatory support, including license maintenance and responding to regulatory requests.
  • Providing ongoing product and regulatory legal support for BNPL and payments products in Canada.
Requirements

To be successful in this role, you will need:

  • A minimum of 6 years of experience as a licensed lawyer in Canada.
  • Significant payments experience.
  • Expertise in consumer laws and regulations.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
Estimated Salary: $90 - $115 per hour
