Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Safety Manager to join our team at Kiewit. As a key member of our safety team, you will be responsible for ensuring the safety and well-being of our employees, subcontractors, and clients on energy construction projects.

Key Responsibilities
  • Safety Planning and Implementation:
    • Develop and implement comprehensive safety plans and procedures specific to energy projects, ensuring alignment with regulatory requirements, industry best practices, and Kiewit's safety standards.
    • Conduct regular site inspections to identify potential hazards and assess safety risks.
  • Training and Education:
    • Develop and deliver safety training programs for employees and subcontractors, promoting a culture of safety awareness and accountability.
    • Provide guidance on safety-related certifications and qualifications required for specific job roles.
  • Incident Management and Investigation:
    • Lead investigations into safety incidents, near misses, and accidents, analyzing root causes and implementing corrective actions to prevent recurrence.
    • Ensure timely reporting of all safety incidents in accordance with company policies and regulatory requirements.
  • Regulatory Compliance:
    • Stay informed about changes in safety regulations and standards applicable to energy construction, coordinating with regulatory authorities during inspections and audits.
  • Safety Performance Monitoring:
    • Establish key performance indicators (KPIs) to measure safety performance on projects, conducting regular assessments and audits to evaluate adherence to safety standards and identify areas for improvement.
    • Provide timely and accurate safety reports to project management and senior leadership.
Requirements
  • Education in Occupational Health and Safety, Environmental Science, Engineering, or related field, with years of experience considered in lieu.
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in construction safety management, ideally with a focus on energy construction projects, demonstrating ability to manage all aspects of a safety program on projects of increasing complexity.
  • Professional certification in safety management (e.g. NCSO) preferred.
  • CPR/First Aid, Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) certification and OSHA/MSHA instructor certifications are preferred.
  • In-depth knowledge of Occupational Health and Safety and other relevant safety standards.
  • Strong communication, leadership, and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, dynamic environment, with strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Good attention to detail, with the ability to recognize discrepancies.
  • Strong work ethic, with willingness to do what it takes to get the job done.
  • Willingness to travel and relocate to project sites as needed.
