Job Title: Clinical Manager, Laboratory Medicine

At William Osler Health System, we are committed to providing a safe and supportive healthcare network for our patients and staff. We are seeking a highly skilled Clinical Manager, Laboratory Medicine to join our team.

The successful candidate will be responsible for providing direct management of the Osler laboratories, participating in laboratory strategic and tactical planning, and managing staff by recruiting, hiring, disciplining, and terminating staff as required.

The ideal candidate will have a strong background in laboratory medicine, with a minimum of five years of experience in one or more laboratory medicine modalities. They will also have a proven track record of process improvement experience in a healthcare setting and relevant training/credentials.

The Clinical Manager, Laboratory Medicine will be responsible for:

  • Developing goals, objectives, standards, policies, and procedures for the laboratory
  • Managing staff by recruiting, hiring, disciplining, and terminating staff as required
  • Completing performance evaluations for direct reports and preparing staff development and training plans
  • Effectively managing and supporting change in accordance with Laboratory goals, clinical priorities, and long-range planning
  • Establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with senior leaders, medical staff, colleagues, patients, and the public
  • Routinely measuring, monitoring, analyzing, and reporting on operational performance data and quality assurance requirements
  • Applying problem-solving, critical-thinking, decision-making, and system analysis skills
  • Attending meetings and providing information as required (may be required to participate on hospital committees and attend external meetings)
  • Implementing corporate action plans at the team level
  • Monitoring and managing the annual department budget, which includes staffing, operational, and capital resources, and reporting compliance
  • Analyzing fiscal data and implementing cost control measures
  • Participating in identifying and responding to patient safety and risk management issues

The Clinical Manager, Laboratory Medicine will work from and travel between Osler sites as required. A completion of an accredited medical laboratory technology diploma program, undergraduate degree, or Master's degree in a related chemical, physical, or biological science, or equivalent education and experience, is required. Relevant training/credentials and process improvement experience in a healthcare setting are preferred.
