Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled School Counsellor to join our team at York Region District School Board. The successful candidate will have specific knowledge and training in school counselling and be able to support regular classroom teachers with specialized teaching strategies in regards to supporting mental health.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide training and support to teachers for students for social and emotional development, anxiety and strategies to build student resilience and independence
  • Deliver preventative "best-practice" interventions and related psycho-social development programs as approved by the Division
  • Comply with provincial regulations and Division policies with respect to the provision counselling services and learning supports
  • Experience with making referrals for therapeutic support and outside agencies who support students and families
  • Track caseload data and evaluate the effectiveness of counselling services, learning supports and student responses to interventions
  • Comply with provincial regulations and Division policies with respect to records management
Requirements
  • Specific knowledge and training in school counselling
  • Ability to support regular classroom teachers with specialized teaching strategies
  • Experience in an educational setting
  • Fluency with e-mail, internet, MS Office, Google mail, docs and sheets
