Job Description

We are seeking a highly skilled Underground Mining Construction Structural Superintendent to join our team at Bantrel. The successful candidate will be responsible for overseeing the coordination of mining contractors executing underground infrastructure construction.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Ensure construction work is planned and executed efficiently, safely, and on schedule.
  • Drive field execution decisions with contractors to optimize project delivery.
  • Foster a collaborative approach to construction execution and assist in solving challenges with contractors.
  • Make day-to-day decisions governing construction progress, resolving competing priorities and allocating resources.
  • Provide constructability input to future work plans and designs.
  • Solve issues alongside Field Engineers and HSE Advisors.
  • Stop construction and resolve or escalate safety or quality concerns.
  • Supervise a team of EPCM field Supervisors or other IPT SMEs in a 24-7 capacity.
  • Coordinate team members from various disciplines and functions working together on tasks.
  • Ensure effective implementation of Jansen HSE processes, plans, and procedures.
  • Actively promote and engage in the Jansen material risk program.
  • Engage in scope-associated risk assessments.
  • Actively participate in constructability, formation, and reviews of field work instruction packages and long-range planning.
  • Review and approve contractor 3-week look ahead and 3-day plans for issues and opportunities to meet site project targets.
  • Liaise with field engineering, cost, and planning, quality control, HSE, and others as required.
  • Coordinate interfaces between contractors and IPT teams.
  • Review and approve contractor LEMS and daily permits.
  • Support field engineering in resolving technical queries and quality in the NCR process.
  • Assist in change management processes.
  • Report progress and challenges to the Mining General Superintendent.
Requirements:
  • Structural Construction or Trade background or Bachelor's Degree in Structural Engineering with relevant levels of work experience in surface, mining construction, or operations.
  • Senior role with 10 years+ of relevant experience in UG construction, shaft, or surface construction.
  • Strong rigging experience is required.
  • Strong Underground (UG) construction experience required.
  • Ability to work flexibly within the Superintendent team and cover any portion of the construction.
  • A good understanding of Workforce Planning implementation and demonstrated ability to review detailed work plans for fatal flaws, poor optimization, and interface issues.
  • Understanding of quality management systems and auditing processes related to major project delivery or program management.
  • Working knowledge of single or multi-discipline construction operations relating to field activities, occupational Health and Safety regulations, WCB provisions, and Labour Relations Code.
  • A demonstrated ability to work with and lead people and build working relationships that lead to high performance outcomes.
  • Ability to work with Contractors and influence best-for-project decisions.
  • Ability to foster an inclusive environment for their team while grounding to the Jansen core values.
  • Motivate themselves and peers to promote and engage in team building and relationship building activities.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to communicate with a wide variety of internal and external stakeholders.
  • Good knowledge of MS Office is required.
  • Demonstrated ability to learn and quickly comprehend new concepts and technologies.
  • Demonstrated strong troubleshooting, analytical, and problem-solving skills, including root cause analysis training.
