Job Summary

Social Assistance Technicians at the Cree Board of Health and Social Services of James Bay (CBHSSJB) play a vital role in providing crisis intervention and support services to clients residing at the shelter. As a key member of our team, you will be responsible for delivering short-term counseling services that align with our organization's philosophy, goals, and objectives.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide crisis intervention and support services to clients
  • Deliver short-term counseling services
  • Develop and maintain effective working relationships with management, team members, and partners
  • Establish and maintain a warm and professional relationship with clients and non-clients
  • Ensure a safe and secure environment within the shelter
  • Adhere to confidentiality standards and social work code of ethics

Requirements

  • Diploma of college studies in Social Work Techniques or Social Assistance Techniques
  • Nonviolent Crisis Intervention training is an asset or willingness to follow it

Knowledge and Abilities

  • Knowledge of public and community health prevention and promotion approaches, methods, issues, and programming
  • Knowledge of MSSS programs and regulations for first-line services is an asset
  • Knowledge of Cree culture, social/health issues in Eeyou Istchee is an asset
  • Knowledge of Eenou/Eeyou Miyupimaatisiiun healing practices and paradigms is an asset
  • Good understanding of developmental psychology and social domains
  • Basic understanding of services offered by the shelter and awareness of other services available in the community
  • Ability to work with targeted clientele
  • Excellent teamwork, critical thinking, organizational, and decision-making skills
  • Autonomous, takes initiative, flexible, discrete, and empathetic
  • Excellent communication skills, both group animation, written, and presentation
  • Ability in office-related computer applications

Language

Fluent in English; fluency in Cree and French is an asset.
