About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled Marine Systems Technical Lead to join our experienced team at BMT Canada.

This role involves providing technical leadership and engineering expertise to support the Design and Engineering Services (DES) team in managing their activities and delivering projects within our market area.

Key responsibilities include:

  1. Providing technical design and analysis advice and consultancy by conducting engineering design and support activities.
  2. Participating in multi-disciplinary project teams in support of client taskings.
  3. Interacting with customers to develop a thorough understanding of their needs and work to exceed expectations.
  4. Ensuring all work is undertaken in accordance with the project statement of work and is checked in accordance with the relevant project and/or BMT Quality Procedure.
  5. Utilizing knowledge of domain-specific standards, including IMO regulations, Class Society rules, Transport Canada Regulations, and Canadian Forces Technical Orders (CFTO's), to support client requirements.
  6. Providing Technical Assurance (TA) of design deliverables or providing guidance and advice to others doing these TA activities.
  7. Overseeing the technical team and all tasks they undertake, analyzing briefs, writing progress reports, delivering presentations to relevant stakeholders, identifying risks, and developing work schedules.
  8. Working with your team and inspiring them to reach their goals.

Key Leadership Responsibilities:

  1. Contributing to the objectives and direction of the DES Business Area and positively and actively supporting the decisions of the management team.
  2. Freely sharing information and mutually supporting other BMT staff to optimize the overall success of BMT Canada.
  3. Contributing to a culture of operational and technical excellence.
  4. Motivating staff and creating an environment where they can ask questions and voice their concerns.
  5. Being transparent with the team about challenges, failures, and successes.
About You

We are looking for enthusiastic and flexible team members who possess the following knowledge, experience, and skills:

  1. Bachelor's degree in a relevant engineering field.
  2. Minimum 15 years of experience in a marine engineering environment.
  3. Eligible for a Canadian security clearance.
  4. Experience within complex maritime design programs.
  5. Experience leading teams within a maritime design program.
  6. An understanding of standards for government and commercial vessels.
  7. Experience in systems integration, ship construction, and/or repair, including development of engineering change/modification specifications.
  8. Experience in major ship construction programs.
  9. Experience working in the Defence industry, preferably shipbuilding or ship repair environment.
  10. Proficient user of Microsoft 365 suite of projects (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Project, Task Boards, Teams).
  11. Ability to manage and lead peers without direct authority.
  12. Ability to influence and earn the respect of clients.
