About the Role

The Medical Laboratory Assistant works collaboratively with Pathology and Laboratory Medicine (PLM) team members, supporting various functions in the pre and post-analytical testing phases. Responsibilities include specimen handling, data entry, media preparation, and customer service activities. Positive patient identification and accurate specimen handling are essential.

Key Responsibilities

  • Perform specimen procurement, receipt, and processing, as well as data entry and media preparation.
  • Support customer service activities, including troubleshooting and supply management.
  • Work collaboratively with the PLM team to ensure smooth laboratory operations.
  • Maintain accurate records and adhere to safety and infection prevention protocols.
  • Perform procedures with high accuracy and attention to detail.

Requirements

  • Medical Laboratory Assistant Program or equivalent qualification.
  • Canadian Society of Medical Laboratory Science (CSMLS) certification and current registration.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Basic understanding of medical terminology and manual dexterity.
  • Ability to adapt to updates and changes in operating procedures.

Working Conditions

The Medical Laboratory Assistant may work rotating shifts, weekends, and holidays, with potential travel requirements. A basic understanding of medical terminology and manual dexterity are essential.
