Rock Mechanics Engineer for Phase Consulting

Phase Consulting, a leading global engineering consulting firm with over a century of industry experience, is seeking an experienced Senior Rock Mechanics Engineer to join their team in North Bay, Ontario. Job DescriptionWe are looking for a Geotechnical Engineer (Mining & Rock Mechanics) to lead geomechanical site investigations, conduct rock mass classification, and perform numerical modelling and analyses. The successful candidate will be responsible for managing and coordinating projects, ensuring timely delivery and client satisfaction.
This role requires excellent technical competence in rock mechanics, strong project management skills, and the ability to develop practical solutions to meet client needs. Travel domestically and internationally may be required to meet client demands.
Responsibilities- Plan, coordinate, and implement geomechanical site investigations to assess rock stability and determine optimal excavation methods.
- Conduct rock mass classification to identify geomechanical domains and select suitable materials for excavation support systems.
- Perform numerical modelling and analyses to evaluate the stability of open pit slopes and underground excavations, ensuring safe and efficient operations.
- Manage and coordinate projects from inception to completion, ensuring timely delivery and client satisfaction.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to develop practical solutions to meet client needs and ensure compliance with regulatory requirements.
- Bachelor's or graduate degree in Geological or Mining Engineering.
- Registered or eligible for registration as a Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) with PEO.
- Minimum of 5 years of experience in rock mechanics, with a strong background in geological or mining engineering.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to develop effective working relationships with clients, colleagues, and stakeholders.
- Strong project management and coordination abilities, with experience in managing multiple projects simultaneously.
- Ability to travel domestically and internationally as required to meet client demands.
- Graduate degree in rock mechanics or a related field.
- Experience in the consulting industry or at an operating mine, with a strong understanding of geomechanical principles and practices.
- Proficiency in numerical modelling software and tools, with experience in developing and implementing complex models.
- A competitive salary range of $120,000 - $180,000 per year, commensurate with experience.
