About the Role



MEG Energy is seeking an experienced Drilling and Completions Engineer to join our team in Calgary, AB.



This role is responsible for providing professional expertise in project planning, project optimization, key performance indicators, collecting data, assessing results and making recommendations to improve MEG Energy's Drilling and Completions programs and procedures.



Responsibilities




  • Work closely with the multidiscipline project team to develop a full understanding of their needs and ensure the project objectives are being met.
  • Prepare drilling and completion cost estimates – AFE's.
  • Prepare drilling and completion programs for field execution.
  • Historical performance tracking
  • Inventory management
  • Scheduling
  • Ensure all required regulatory documentation is in place.
  • Assist in the preparation of contract and procurement strategies.
  • Assist in the specification and selection of fit-for-purpose drilling and completion equipment and services.
  • Assist in the preparation of tender documents and evaluate bids.
  • Prepare requisitions for well materials and services.
  • Main contact between D&C and other Business Units in regard to optimization projects.
  • Assist in ensuring regulatory compliance of programs and operations.
  • Conduct offset well reviews and benchmark peer performance.
  • Assist in the preparation of comprehensive programs.
  • Work closely with Service Contractors to design and execute effective programs.
  • Seek opportunities for cost and time savings through the application of appropriate technologies and operational practices.
  • Oversee operational cost control and cost management.
  • Work closely with the Operations Team during the planning, execution, and post operational review phases of the project.
  • Monitor daily drilling and completions operations and provide technical assistance where required.
  • Take ownership of the data quality and ensure its accurately captured during the operational phase.
  • Seek for permanent performance improvements.
  • Support Operational Superintendents in review of recommended services, equipment and procedures to ensure activities are efficiently executed.
  • Provide technical expertise to troubleshoot major unplanned events.
  • Ensure service contractors meet MEG Energy's business objectives and HSE goals.
  • Assist in the preparation of the project performance review to fully capture lessons learned and best practices.
  • Ensure that the Drilling and Completions team is up to date on the latest technology and best in class practices.
  • Provide time and cost updates to project stakeholders as required.
  • Review invoices for accuracy.


Requirements




  • Must have an Engineering degree and be an APEGA member.
  • 4 - 6 years' experience in the Oil and Gas Industry specifically drilling and/or completions in thermal operations (SAGD).
  • A combined history of planning and operational roles in the office and field is desirable.
  • Experience with Wellview.
  • Must demonstrate enthusiasm and drive for continuous improvement.
  • Committed to principal of achieving injury free operations.
  • Must be able to take ownership and make timely decisions and communicate outcomes.
  • Strong team player and be able to work well with others, effective communicator and provides constructive feedback.
  • Provides leadership and direction to contractors and field supervisors.
  • Must have skills for dealing with multiple operations.
  • Natural leadership by example.
  • Provide technical expertise to troubleshoot major unplanned events.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills including the ability to build and maintain effective working relationships both within MEG Energy as well as Partner Groups, Service Companies and Regulatory agencies.
  • Strong computer and organizational skills are a must.
