About the Role

American Iron & Metal is seeking a highly experienced Senior Transportation Director to lead our domestic transportation department in North America. As a key member of our team, you will be responsible for overseeing the transportation of millions of tons of materials annually, ensuring superior customer service and performance while driving growth and efficiency.

Key Responsibilities

  • Supervise rail fleet operations teams and develop a network of service providers in North America.
  • Manage the railway transportation department, including 2500 company-owned railcars.
  • Oversee the optimal utilization of company assets while ensuring sales orders are fulfilled strategically.
  • Troubleshoot service failures and develop solutions.
  • Lead rate and service negotiations with current and new rail service providers.
  • Develop and implement KPIs and controls.
  • Act as the railway transportation advisor to commercial and operational managers, as well as other department heads and upper management.
  • Initiate periodic meetings with service providers and internal customers to develop and maintain strong relationships.
  • Ensure the commercial department is up-to-date with accurate and current railway information and forecasts.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in business, logistics, or supply chain management.
  • Minimum 10 years of experience in logistics with direct railway exposure.
  • Demonstrated senior leadership and decision-making track-record in fast-paced, high-growth environments.
  • Pronounced business acumen and problem-solving skills, analytical and creative thinker, adaptable and comfortable with ambiguity and change.
  • Experience in change management and project management.
  • Experience with railway transport regulations and administrative requirements preferred but not required.
  • Excellent sense of organization.
  • Excellent communication skills.
  • Bilingual - English and French required.
