Senior Sea Lion Trainer

Job Summary:
The Senior Sea Lion Trainer is a key member of our team at West Edmonton Mall, responsible for the care and training of our California sea lions. This role requires a high level of expertise in animal behavior modification and operant conditioning techniques.
Key Responsibilities:
- Develop and implement training programs for our sea lions, ensuring their physical and mental well-being.
- Maintain a clean and safe environment for the animals, adhering to industry guidelines and government regulations.
- Train and mentor junior staff members in animal care and handling techniques.
- Collaborate with other team members to develop educational programs and presentations for our guests.
- Assist with the development and maintenance of training programs, ensuring they meet industry standards and guidelines.
- Monitor the health and well-being of our sea lions, identifying any potential issues and taking corrective action.
- Participate in the development and implementation of a comprehensive nutritional program for our sea lions.
- Other responsibilities as required.
Requirements:
- Minimum 8 years of experience in animal behavior modification and operant conditioning, with a focus on California sea lions.
- Bachelor's degree in biology or a related field.
- Thorough knowledge of modern animal husbandry techniques and industry guidelines.
- Previous experience with public speaking, customer service, and effective communication and interpersonal skills.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office and able to learn new software programs quickly.
- Ability to swim and SCUBA diving certification desirable.
Terms of Employment:
- This is a permanent, full-time position requiring flexible availability for days, weekends, and holidays.
- The wage for this position is $49.80 per hour.
- Must be able to speak and write in English.
- This position works in a busy mall environment, primarily at attractions and in a classroom setting.
- This individual is required to interact successfully with guests and children of all ages.
- The position requires some city traveling to deliver educational courses.
- Must be able to carry 50lb and stand for long periods of time.
- Must be able to pass a basic security clearance.
