We are seeking a highly skilled Industrial Mechanic Specialist to join our team at Superior Essex. As an Industrial Mechanic Specialist, you will play a critical role in ensuring the safe and efficient installation, maintenance, and repair of complex machinery and equipment.
About the RoleThis is a full-time position that requires a strong background in mechanical aptitude, with experience in moving, assembling, disassembling, troubleshooting, and repairing various types of machinery and equipment.
Responsibilities- Inspect machinery as it arrives, unload parts, and assemble them safely using hand and power tools;
- Relocate unassembled equipment, positioning machinery and pieces for assembly, using hoists, dollies, and trucks;
- Interpret blueprints and schematics to determine work procedures;
- Dismantle machines using hammers, crowbars, wrenches, and other hand or power tools;
- Construct foundations for new equipment using building materials like wood, cement, and steel;
- Align machines and equipment during installation, using hoists, jacks, squares, ruler, micrometers, and plumb bobs;
- Use a lathe to grind, file, and turn machine parts to match specifications;
- Assemble all machinery and equipment by bolting, welding, riveting, or fastening to pre-built foundations;
- Diagnose problems and perform necessary repairs, often requiring screwdrivers, wrenches, and welding torches;
- Adhere to assembly and installation instructions set forth in vendor manuals and specifications;
- Repair problems associated with new equipment;
- Fabricate new machine parts if original parts are missing or damaged;
- In addition to installing and repairing machinery, millwrights may assist with plant maintenance, such as making and installing guardrails to prevent worker falls or installing fans to improve ventilation;
- Identify and correct problems found in machines, equipment, or processes to facilitate production;
- Maintain working machines by cleaning, oiling, and greasing parts; use computer diagnostic tools as needed;
- Lead apprentices and direct them to ensure successful task completion;
- Ensure safety policies, quality standards, and standard operating procedures are followed;
- Perform preventative maintenance once machines and equipment are operational;
- Complete required paperwork.
- Red Seal valid Industrial Mechanic Millwright Certification – completion of a Four-year apprenticeship program certified by the province of Ontario;
- Industrial Maintenance/Maintenance Millwright Technology college completion;
- Experience in moving, assembling, disassembling, troubleshooting, and repairing various types of machinery and equipment;
- Ability to detect, isolate, and identify irregularities and malfunctions in machinery and equipment;
- Competence in fabricating new parts to replace defective parts during machine setup, maintenance, or overhaul;
- Thorough knowledge of load-bearing capabilities of equipment to be installed, assembled, or dismembered;
- Demonstrated aptitude in reading and interpreting blueprints, diagrams, schematics, drawings, manuals, and specifications, mathematics;
- Good written and verbal communication skills;
- Familiarity with quality standards;
- Accurate and highly analytical;
- Experience in supervising and mentoring apprentices;
- Strong work ethic and positive team attitude.
- Travel may be required;
- Ability to lift and carry objects up to 100 lbs;
- Manual dexterity required to use power and hand tools;
- Frequently noisy working environment;
- Overtime as required;
- Unionized USW Local 6187;
- 12-hour continental shifts.
The estimated salary for this position is $85,000-110,000 per year, based on industry standards and the location of Superior Essex.
