About the Role:

The University of Toronto is seeking a highly skilled and dedicated Coordinator of Indigenous Education Initiatives to join our team. As a key member of our Indigenous Education team, you will play a critical role in supporting the development and implementation of Indigenous education initiatives across the university.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide executive support to the Dean's Advisory Council on Indigenous Education (DACIE) and ensure that due process is followed, approved action items are executed, and deadlines are met.
  • Liaise with units across the university to promote collaboration, communication, and sharing of promising practices related to Indigenous education and student supports.
  • Oversee the work of the Indigenous Education Network (IEN), including day-to-day management of the IEN office space and team of staff and volunteers.
  • Develop and track the IEN's budget and complete reporting and documentation of activities related to Indigenous initiatives.
  • Respond to internal and external requests related to Indigenous teaching and learning, sharing knowledge and making referrals as needed.
  • Provide advising and support to the OISE Registrar Office and Student Experience (ROSE) and departments related to Indigenous student recruitment, retention, and success.

Requirements:

  • Bachelor's Degree plus Post Graduate Certificate or acceptable combination of equivalent experience.
  • Minimum four years experience related to Indigenous Education, preferably in a university environment.
  • Minimum four years experience working within the Indigenous community in Toronto and understanding of Indigenous cultural safety and trauma-informed service delivery.
  • Community outreach and partnership development experience.
  • Experience supervising staff, including students and volunteers.
  • Project management, budgeting, and reporting skills.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills, demonstrated experience delivering presentations.
  • Strong computer skills, including superior word-processing/excel skills and strong proficiency with all other MS Office tools.
  • Strong organizational skills.
  • Knowledge of institutional efforts toward reconciliation and equity, diversity, and inclusion frameworks.
  • Familiarity with educational issues confronting Indigenous communities and approaches to supporting student mental health and wellbeing.
