Salary Range

The salary range for this position is CAD $45/Hr. - CAD $59/Hr., commensurate with experience.

Job Description

We are hiring Registered Nurses (RN) and Registered Psychiatric Nurses (RPN) into a variety of units and sites within Vancouver Community Mental Health and Substance Use programs. As a Mental Health Nurse, you will provide triage and outreach services that are inclusionary and flexible for individuals with mental illness, addictions, and/or chronic medical conditions.

  • You will conduct mental and physical status assessments and assess clients' physiological, psychological, sociocultural, and spiritual needs to determine priority of care requirements based on client needs, availability of resources, and best practices.
  • You will provide counseling and assist clients with reducing repeated contact with and use of acute and community healthcare services/programs/resources.
  • You will assess high-risk situations and provide crisis intervention.
  • You will collaborate with an interdisciplinary team to develop, implement, and adjust client care plans and meet the client's need for integrated services and continuity of care across the continuum.
  • You will facilitate the movement of clients between acute care, community agency support sites, and designated health centers.
  • You will participate in case conferences/meetings with members of the multidisciplinary team.
  • You will assist clients with attendance to needed services such as medical appointments.

Required Skills and Qualifications

To be successful in this role, you must have:

  • A current practicing registration as a Registered Nurse or Registered Psychiatric Nurse with the British Columbia College of Nurses and Midwives (BCCNM).
  • A diploma in nursing or psychiatric nursing plus two years' recent related experience working with individuals with mental health and addiction illnesses, or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
  • A valid BC Driver's License. Local area travel may require the use of a personal vehicle.
  • Broad knowledge of crisis intervention and counseling skills.
  • Broad knowledge of mental health illnesses and treatment.
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing, with clients and their families, colleagues, physicians, and other healthcare staff, both one-on-one and in groups.
  • Demonstrated ability to establish workload priorities and adjust schedules to deal with unexpected situations.
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently and collaboratively as a member of a multidisciplinary team.
